Starting School

Turning 5 is very special.  This booklet will be very useful for you and your child when they start school

Kick Start

Kick Start is a programme for 4 year olds who will be attending Westbrook School.  The children attend for approximately a term before they turn 5.  Parent/Caregivers need to attend and stay with the child.

The Kick Start Programme:

- Helps make a smooth and easy transition to school enjoyable.
- Develops children's readiness for school in literacy,numeracy,
  motor co-ordination and social skills.
- Shows parents how they can assist their children at home in
  preparation for school.

At the Kick start programme we:

- Take part in early reading, writing and maths activities.
- Have an opportunity to meet and talk with New Entrant teachers
- Give parents ideas, as to how they can help their children at
  home.
- Give an introduction to school.
- Have lots of fun.

 

Pre-School Visits

Pre-school visits are available to show your child which room they will be in,introduce them to their new teacher and the students they will be working with.  Most children who complete Kick Start benefit from at least one or two visits.  If you feel your child may need more transition to school please feel free to discuss this with the Kick Start teacher.

Time:        8.55am to 11am

Please note: A Parent or caregiver must stay with the child for the duration of the visit.
